Microix
application is accessible using a standard modern web browser or mobile device
over HTTPS. When the application is hosted locally (on-premises), internal
users connect directly to your local web server, while remote users typically
connect through a VPN or a secure reverse proxy that exposes the application
externally.
Because
network and security configurations can vary greatly between organizations, the
specific setup for external or mobile access should be reviewed and implemented
by an IT consultant or network administrator. They can ensure the configuration
follows your organization’s best practices for security and performance.
Below
are some general requirements and considerations for hosting the Microix
Workflow Modules application locally:
General Server & Network Requirements
1.
Server Environment
- Operating System: Windows Server 2019 or later (64-bit)
- Web Server: IIS with the ASP.NET Core Hosting Bundle
installed
- Memory: 8-16 GB but varies based on user count
2.
Software Prerequisites
- .NET Runtime: .NET 9 or higher
- IIS Features:
- Web Server (IIS)
- WebSocket Protocol
- Windows Authentication
(if using AD)
- Database: Microsoft SQL Server (2017 or newer) for the
application database
3.
Network & Connectivity
- Port: HTTPS (443) must be open for users to access the site
- Protocol: HTTPS required; install a valid SSL/TLS certificate
- WebSockets: Must be enabled in IIS
- Timeouts: Reverse proxies or firewalls should allow idle
connections of at least 2–5 minutes to prevent dropped sessions
- DNS: Configure a friendly name (e.g., https://intranet.company.local or https://portal.company.com)
4.
User Access
- Internal Users: Connect directly to the internal server over LAN or
Wi-Fi
- Remote Users:
- Use VPN for secure
internal access, or
- Publish the site via a
secure reverse proxy or gateway
- Mobile Devices: Access via mobile web browser (HTTPS)
5.
Security
- TLS 1.2 or higher required
- Keep Windows, IIS, and .NET patched regularly
We
recommend your consultant or IT partner handle the network configuration
and determine the best approach for secure connectivity (VPN, reverse proxy, or
zero-trust solution) based on your organization’s existing infrastructure.
