🛠️ Modern Upgrade Process Overview – What to Expect

Step 1: Eligibility & Preparation

Participants: Microix + Organization’s Microix Administrator

Please review the What’s New materials, including release dates, breaking changes then click on submit the Request/Schedule form so we can connect with you to go over the below and once ready, get you on the upgrade calendar. 

Please confirm the following:

  • Confirmation that you’ve previewed Modern
  • Currently own Web licenses|pack (min 25 is required)  
  • Total number of Web (Named) Licenses required in Modern
  • Preferred upgrade date and time (after 5:00 PM EST)
  • Primary User details (first name, last name, email address) — this user will receive the initial Welcome Email
  • Your environment: On-Premise or MIP Cloud Hosted

Key Considerations (Important)

  • There is no rollback to the Classic version
  • Classic custom reports, forms, and layouts do not transfer
  • Batch scanning is not available in Modern
  • All users must:
    • Reset their passwords
    • Use domain-based email addresses
  • Concurrent/Windows licenses are retired in Modern and converted to Named Web Licenses
    • Additional Web License tiers must be purchased if more capacity is needed
  • Web licenses are consumed per active user per database
  •  End of Feature Development Notice

Modern Sandbox Request

  • The sandbox contains sample data only
  • Live MIP data cannot be loaded
  • Intended strictly for exploring Modern, not testing advanced configurations

End User Preparation

(Led by the Microix Admin / Primary User)

The Primary User is responsible for:

Step 2: Scheduling the Upgrade (Based on Environment)

All upgrades are scheduled after hours to minimize disruption, and staff should be notified in advance. When Microix performs the Modern upgrade—whether the client is in MIP Cloud or On‑Premise—users must be out of Microix, but they may continue working in MIP during the upgrade.


On-Premise Environment

Participants: Organization IT + Microix  (Note: Organization IT must review the following prior to scheduling the upgrade):

  • IT reviews system requirements
  • After-hours upgrade is scheduled
  • Microix and IT install and register Modern
  • Primary User receives the Welcome Email

MIP Cloud Hosted Environment

Participants: Microix + MIP

Step 1 – Microix

  • Modern module migration (~30 minutes)
  • Attachment extraction (~5 minutes per 5,000 attachments)

Step 2 – MIP

  • Configuration completed during business hours (~1 hour)
  • System paths and permissions setup
  • Attachments moved to permanent storage

Step 3 – Microix

  • Modern registration completed
  • Welcome Email sent to Primary User

Primary User (Microix Admin)

  • Receives the initial Welcome Email from donotreply@microix.ai
  • Email includes first-time login and setup instructions
    (Tip: Check Spam/Junk folders if the email isn’t received)
